Caring for Your Pure Lightweight Cast Iron Cookware

1. Preparing the Cookware - Seasoning

√ Before first use, wash your cookware with hot water and dish soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
√ Apply a layer of vegetable oil to the interior and place it upside down in the oven on a tray lined with aluminum foil to catch drips. Bake at 150-200°C for one hour.
√ Turn off the oven and let the cookware cool inside. This process creates a protective layer that prevents rust and food sticking. Repeat periodically to maintain non-stick performance.

2. Cleaning the Cookware

√ Use salt and hot water to clean, scrubbing with the rough side of a clean sponge or a half lemon for its degreasing properties.
√ Avoid chemicals or detergents that can strip the seasoning and be absorbed by the porous cast iron.
√ Not dishwasher safe!

3. Maintenance and Storage

√ Before storing, coat the cookware with vegetable oil.
√ If your cookware has a lid, store it open to allow ventilation.
√ Always ensure the cookware is dry before storing to prevent rust.

4. Removing Rust (Normal for Pure Lightweight Cast Iron)

√ Heat the cookware and scrub with the rough side of a clean sponge. For stubborn rust, soak in a 50/50 water-vinegar solution, then scrub again.
√ You can also rub the rust with a cut potato.

It rusts!

I was very happy when I heard about pure light cast iron because I've been using cast iron for some time and I'm very happy, but they also rust with oil in them even though I seasoned them properly. I hope that in time it will form like the others from the heavy fin that I have.
